DWI (Dude Weekend) May 2007
Ron and Brian had talked about getting out and going camping last spring (07), so they set up an all dude weekend. We were going to head up to Lake Placid and hike into the deep woods of the Adironidacks like Jerimia Johnson..hunt, spit, curse, admire wildlife and grow facial hair.
as you can see from the picture below Ron did get his outdoor adventure...but it was on the other side of the US and the only thing he was doing was cursing because Gyro had sent his ass to Yosemitee National Park for a photo shoot...
deep asleep along route 87, 4:00 a.m.
nothing but blue sky and misery...sleeping for 3 hours in a car with trucks wizzing by is no way to energize for a long hike..
brian, brett and mazzy riding close behind
quick photo session along scenic drive into/out of Lake Placid.
every year/time we drive by this spot we've always want to stop a take in the views

in the fall these birch trees are bright orange and red and look like their on fire and crashing into the pond below

cold lake 1

Nate and Ron both couldn't make it but Mike showed up and we took him with us.
late spring..still snow in ADK

intense bridge action

Brett closed his eyes AND walked backwards over said intense bridge
Are destination was Mt. Dix. 1 of the 46 high Peaks in the ADK park. It was suppose to be a three day adventure. 1st day lite hike into the lean-to at the base of Dix. we thought it would be cool to ditch the FULL packs (40 pounds) and do a lite 1 mile hike up to _____ for a nice lunch and take in the sights of Dix...

the hike up was tuff. straight up and all snow and ice..and YES I did have my gortex Gaytors on to protect my ankles.
Mt. Dix

Dix and Pank
Brett was given the 'Monkey Pod' mega grip by Alison before the trip began. Oh how excite Brett was to getta bloggin. sad but true the MP has been laid to rest. one too many blogs.

pic of pix and a snack for the Monkey Pod
sick pic...
if you look closely you can find the lean-to that we would sleep at in the base of the valley below Mt. Dix..yes to the left of that one green tree and past the stream...you'll see

Pank in full outdoor dude mood

when your over 3,400 feet above sea level.. the air is thinner.. the clouds fuller... and the sky blueeer.

survey marker...yes i made it.

base camp. the barto's and mazzy were closest to the stream. that pile of logs there...I used it to make a bear barricade around Mike's kiddy tent...if one is scarred of tight places. beware

Day 2: breakfast of champs...well i guess not... because we opted out of hiking Dix. too beat up from the 'lite' hike the other day. everyone's knees hurt and Mazzy was shot. Dix looked killer and from the notes people left in the notebook which is left in the lean-to.. I'd say some major injures occurred on the trecherous slides of Mt. Dix....
panks outdoor cafe..

hot blue..
Java Joey even made it to breakfast

in the wood you always share your meal with the one who can fight off a bear..
sights from said Mt. Dix Lean-to journel
if I had time I would have drawn Wookie on the shitter..
this is what we slept next too and washed up in, in the morning..damn cold I might say

frigid crystal clear water from atop mount Dix

shirts optional?

beaver fever..no way.

check mazzy out...so hyped to frolock in the stream

one of the many reasons we decided not to hike a high peaks..
man's best friend wiped out
things people meet in the wild!
oh my!

man's other best friend...wet wipes!
